As the race for the 2011 general elections draws near, three political parties namely: Action Congress (AC, All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) and Democratic People’s Party (DPP) have concluded plans to merge.
P.M.NEWS authoritatively learnt that leaders of the three parties have been holding talks on the possible merger for quite some time now, but reached a conclusion to become one party two weeks ago.
It was gathered that all the leaders of the three parties and their governors have endorsed the merger, while they are still fine tuning the memoranda of understanding.
P.M.NEWS further gathered that while the Action Congress and the Democratic People’s Party have agreed to work together in principle, the All Nigeria People’s Party, on its part, promised to endorse the merger at its convention slated for next month.
Serious deliberations involving the likes of Chief Bisi Akande, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Bafarawa and Lt. Gen. Useni among others on the modalities of the merger was said to have prompted the change of name.
A source told P.M.NEWS that the three parties would come under one umbrella to be known as Action Congress People’s Party (ACPP) under which members of present AC, ANPP and DPP would contest election into various offices.
Plans have also been concluded to register the new political party.
