A man in his early 40s lost his life on Thursday’s afternoon at Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
He was knocked down by a taxi cab just by the pedestrian bridge while attempting to cross the highway. The man, whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, was still lying by the roadside as LASTMA officials tried to control onlookers who wanted to catch a glimpse of the victim.
A LASTMA official, who simply identified himself as Omo, stated that the accident took them by surprise as there was normal flow of traffic before the sad incident. “I cannot really say what led to the accident. We just heard a bang and a shout. And the next thing we saw was this lifeless body. “He should have used the pedestrian bridge which could have prevented this ugly occurence. It is really sad that he lost his life in this manner,” he stated.
A passerby who commented on the incident also said if he had used the footbridge, he could have saved his life. “Imagine, he lost his life just by this footbridge. This is why we keep advising people to make use of the bridge. It is meant for us and not for goats. It pains me a lot that he was knocked down by the footbridge which he was supposed to use.”
The corpse and taxi have been removed by the agents of the Lagos State government.

@runthings…Why must we always behave like animals if i may ask u, what is the pedestrian bridge meant for? is fasola supposed to stand at every pedestrian bridge in lagos and beg pple like u to make use of it. d man is tired of living so he chose to commit suicide by crossing the express right beside a pedestrian bridge so let him go rest in peace, I only feel for the family he left behind.
It’s a pity that the young man lost his life in a tragic manner, may his soul rest in perfect peace.Mean while our people should know that the pedestrian bridge is not meant for decoration, govt spent a lot to put the structure in place, and people should know that crossing of express road is suicide attempt had it being that the bridge is not there it would have another story. God bless Nigeria ,Eko o ni baje.
THIS IS A BIG LESSON TO OTHER PEOPLE WHO WOULD NOT USE THE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE ( AMEN).
If I can recall correctly, LASTMA officials were not present when this incidence happened and in fact people were still crossing the wide road after this incidence without been challenged nor stopped by LASTMA officials.
The Lagos State Government should be held responsible for this death as it has failed to enforce the law and to rescue this life as the man was still alive for some minutes after the accident but only gave up the ghost because emergency service didn’t arrive on time.
The problem with Nigeria is that until Fashola’s, Tinubu’s, Atiku’s, Rimi’s, Obasanjo or IBB’s relations are killed this way, the Government will make its usual noise about what the right thing ought to be and making an inquiry about such issues.
So people of Nigeria, think, if any of us dies this way, this will be the end of the story.
May God give Nigeria good, responsible, visionary, transformational leaders that would love to be held accountable for even the lives of beggars on the street as it is other normal countries
