A nurse who doubles as a midwife, Rachael Ogu, has allegedly sent a pregnant woman, Ebere Obaji Nwagwu, to her early grave.

The nurse was said to have administered drugs on the woman during labour.

Ebere had gone to the nurse’s house at 8, Kadiri Mogaji Street, Ijegun, a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria, to deliver her baby.

While she was in labour, the nurse reportedly gave her some drugs so that she could deliver quickly. After taking the drugs, the deceased became unconscious,  slumped and died.

The baby she wanted to deliver also died. When the nurse discovered what had happened, she left the deceased and fled to an unknown place.

The tenants living with the nurse later discovered what happened and informed the Chief Security Officer of the area, Barry Osha, who called the Chairman of the Landlord Association, Chief A. Ajayi.

Chief Ajayi went to the police at Isheri Oshun and reported the matter.

The police went there and carried the deceased and deposited her body at the Isolo mortuary.

When P.M.NEWS visited the residence of the deceased at 58 Ola Street Abaranje Road, Ikotun, the relations of deceased were seen consoling the husband.

The man said he did not know that her late wife went to that place to deliver her baby, adding that  they have a family hospital where she delivered their first child.

At the residence of the nurse, the tenant claimed that they did not know that she was using her room as maternity home.

On investigation P.M.NEWS gathered that she has been using her room to deliver babies.

Efforts to get the landlord of the house where the incident happened proved abortive as P.M.NEWS gathered that the landlord died last year and his son who is now in charge was not living there.

At the police station, the DPO was not around to comment on the matter but a source at the police station  told P.M.NEWS that the suspect was later arrested at a church where she went to hide.

The matter has been transferred to the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
