A 37-year old barber, Sunday Bassey, has been arrested by the police at the Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, Lagos, Nigeria for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend, Victoria Asuquo, with a knife.

Bassey, who lives at 4, Ariyo Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi Lagos, accused Victoria of sleeping with other men.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS at the station, Bassey claimed that his girlfriend whom he brought from Akwa Ibom, has been sleeping with other men because of his financial challenges.

He explained that while he was quarrelling with her, she grabbed the knife which he was holding and injured herself. She insisted that Sunday stabbed her.

According to Victoria, she has been responsible for Sunday’s upkeep since he lost his job, adding that she did not deserve such treatment from him.

“He became jealous because my business is flourishing. This man could have killed me. Thank God he did it in the evening and not in the midnight while I was asleep,” she said.

The matter could not be taken to court because the magistrates are on strike and the courts are shut.
