Thugs Attack Ekiti Council Chairman With Machete

There was pandemonium in Emure Ekiti on Sunday as suspected thugs inflicted machete cuts on the Chairman of Emure Local Government, Chief Sesan Aruwaji, almost killing him.

Aruaji was immediately rushed to the state Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti by sympathisers after the thugs had left the scene of the incident.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Patrick Adegun told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Ado-Ekiti on Monday that Aruwaji had undergone surgery on the left hand, neck and the head.

Adegun, who described the operation as “successful” said the health condition of the chairman was stable after the operation and he was recovering.

NAN learnt that the crisis started on Saturday when some officials of the council ran into two lorries carrying logs around 6.45 p.m. along Ikare road, Emure.

The council officials stopped the lorries drivers for interrogation and this did not go down well with the log operators who launched an attack against the council officials.

The officials who apprehend one of the drivers and his lorry, took him to the nearest police station while they renewed their search for those who had escaped.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Jimoh Mohammed, said four persons had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Mohammed disclosed that police in the state had commenced investigations into the attack and promised to bring the culprits to book.
