Enyimba International Football Club of Aba on Sunday defeated the Sunshine Stars FC of Akure 1-0 in their first game of the 2016/2017 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Ibrahim Mustapha scored the lone goal in the 20 minute of the match played at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
Enyimba’s coach Gbenga Ogunbote later told newsmen he was filled with happiness as his team recorded their first win of the season in their opening game.
Ogunbote expressed satisfaction with the game’s outcome, predicting that the Aba side would emerge victorious at the end of the season.
He said his team was looking ahead to recording victory in every match.
Sunshine Stars’ coach Ale Olarenwaju, on his part, commended his team for their performance.
He said he would, however, re-strategise to ensure that his team won matches home and away.
