Mobile Court convicts 44 motorists in Jos

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Plateau Command on Friday convicted 44 motorists for various traffic offences.

The corps Public Education Officer in the command, Mr. Andrew Bala told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos that the 44 motorists were convicted by mobile courts in Bukuru and Jos.

“Our officers and men on patrol conducted a mobile court exercise and 40 motorists were convicted for various offences.

“We actually arraigned 45 vehicle owners, but one was discharged and acquitted by the court.

“This exercise is part of our ember months special patrol, which is targeted at sensitizing drivers and ridding the roads of crashes, loss of lives and properties during this period, underaged,” he said.

Bala explained that the convicted motorists were made to pay fines based on the offence committed.

He urged motorists to ensure they were certified to drive and their vehicles were roadworthy before plying the road.

NAN reports that the 44 were convicted for seatbelt violation, lack of fire extinguishers and caution signs, using worn-out tyres.

Others convict underage drivers, those without valid drivers licence, and those using unregistered vehicles among others.
