The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has decried the inability of the Jos North Local Government Council in Plateau to pay the salaries of workers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the caretaker committee appointed by State Government had not been able to pay the council’s workers since October this year.

An official of the union, Mr Sunday Musa, told NAN on Tuesday in Jos that workers of the council had been suffering, due to non-payment of their salaries.

He lamented that the caretaker committee running the affairs of the council had yet to brief either the union or the workers on the salary issue.

“We have been kept in the dark on the issue by the appointed executive running the Local Government

“The union is not being carried along anymore in staff matters by the committee that runs the Local Government.

“Salaries have not been paid since October and nobody has come to address the issue to let us know why salaries are not being paid as at when due.

“Information is power and you will agree with me that recession is not helping matters. This is not the time to keep quiet.

“People are looking for answers to their questions.”

Musa said the information gap being created by the authorities of the council was not acceptable as it was capable of precipitating crisis.

“The past administration will call NULGE to talk and seek ways of dealing with delicate issues to maintain a peaceful working atmosphere but it is not so with the present executive.”

The unionist, however, appealed to the council’s authorities to give room for dialogue through information flow.

Members of the caretaker committee kept sealed lips when NAN correspondent sought their reaction on the inability of the council to pay workers their salaries.
