The Chairman, Adamawa branch of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mr Samson Almuru, has appealed to the state government to increase monthly allowances of its members from N3,000 to N15,000.

Almuru made the appeal in Yola on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He stated that the upward review would address the poor living conditions of the pensioners in the state in the face of the biting economic challenges.

“A significant number of our members who retired from state and local government services are currently collecting N3,000 and N4,000 as monthly pension allowances.

“During our last meeting, we resolved and called the attention of state government to, as a matter of urgency, review and upgrade the minimum pension allowance to at least N15,000 as being paid in the neighbouring states,” Almuru said.

He called on the prominent citizens of the state to help the union in actualising this request from the government.
