Kwara monarch lauds Unilorin’s COBES programme

The monarch of Ganmo in Kwara, Alhaji Anafi Zubair, has lauded the University of Ilorin for its Faculty of Agriculture’s Community Based Experience and Service (COBES) programme.

Anafi gave this commendation in his palace on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the university during a tour of the COBES centers across the state.

He told the delegation, led by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Kola Joseph, that the students at the centers had been relating well with the people.

“Your students are good ambassadors of the university. They relate well and assist our farmers and children in their farming and in teaching our young ones.

“We even feel that they should not go back. We are really enjoying their presence in our community,” he said.

The Oniganmo of Ganmo said that the programme was a bridge between education and community service.

He added that it would stand the test of time and inculcate in the students, the ability to practice what they learned in the class.

The Director of Academic Planning of the university, Prof. Abayomi Omotesho, advised that the programme be extended to more communities.

He said that this would create more opportunities for the students to have practical experience in agriculture.

Also speaking, the dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, observed that during his frequent interactions with the students, he discovered that the programme had a positive impact on them.

He described the programme as one of the best in the university, which had distinguished the institution among other universities in the country.
