Mr Obinna Okenwa, the lawmaker representing Enugu South-Urban Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, has volunteered to fumigate Enugu South council area in order to stem the breeding of mosquitoes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the council recently witnessed an upsurge in mosquitoes as well as residents coming down with malaria within the past one month when the dry season set in.

Okenwa told NAN on Monday in Enugu that the move was to check the menace of mosquitoes and its attendant malaria that affect the people of the locality.

“This is the right time to implement this programme of general fumigation of the council area especially the Enugu South-Urban, mostly affected by the menace.

“I did promise to fumigate and attend to all health needs of this locality with the needed dispatch it deserved.

“I would start the council-wide fumigation in few days because there is a need to move with speed to check this spate of mosquito infestation,” he said.

The lawmaker, however, urged his constituents to be patient as he would fulfill all his electioneering promises.

“We have stayed for a year and three months now in office; however, we are having challenges, especially that which involve lean financial budget,” he said.

According to him, everybody is currently feeling the recession, but with prayers, focus and determination, I know we would get out of it.
