Smith, Bello task principals, teachers on being role model to youths

Ex-Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mr Tunji Bello ‎and the National Missioner, Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdul-Rahaman Ahmad and other eminent personalities have tasked principals and teachers in Lagos public schools to be role models of the younger ones by embracing hardwork.

They described hard work, discipline and diligence as qualities that teachers and principals must imbibe to shape the lives of the students in the schools, saying that was the only way of building stronger future for the upcoming generation.

Speaking at the 10th memorial anniversary of the ex-Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, Late Younis Olatunji Basorun, held at Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Sunday, Smith said Nigerian teachers and principals must begin to see to themselves as role model.

“Teachers, principals and the parents have a lot to contribute in the making our children. They are there to guide them and advise them on what to do because upbringing is very important.‎ They must up bring them in the way of God so that they can become credible, reliable, prominent and worthy of emulation like the Late Olatunji Basorun, whose exemplary life is being celebrated today,” he said.

Speaking, Bello described late Basorun as not just a school principal to him while he was in ‎Ansar-Ud-Deen College but also a father, who adopted him all through his secondary school days.

He urged teachers and principals to emulate the late academic icon, saying he was a product of virtues of Basorun, whose unblemished records earned him many accolades during his life time and after his demise.

“His upright life style is what I will urge everyone to emulate. He trained many of us and everything about who we are is traceable to him and the quality of his lifestyle. My advice for the younger generation is to be hard-working, truthful, diligence and upright. That is what Allhaji Basorun stood for,” Bello said.

Permanent Secretary, Office of Overseas Affairs in Lagos, Dr Yakub Basorun described Basorun as father who never discriminate between children regardless of his biological relations.

He Urge the youths to emulate the late principal of Ansar-Ud-Deen College, saying that Basorun’s disciplined lifestyle was responsible for his successes and accolades while on earth.

In his lecture, the National Missioner of Ansar_Ud-Deen, Sheikh Ahmad urged those in position of authority to live exemplary lifestyle, saying nothing was permanent as nobody would live forever.

At the event were the Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami; former governorship candidate of the defunct All Peoples Party, Alhaji Kekere-Ekun; former Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Otunba Fatai Olukoga, among others.
