An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Sunday Joshua, to one-year imprisonment for stealing a neighbour’s bicycle and a generator battery.

The magistrate, Mrs O. S. Amzat, sentenced the convict, who is of no fixed address after he pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy, attempt to steal and stealing.

Amzat, who sentenced the convict without an option of fine, however, advised him to turn a new leaf after serving the jail term.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky told the court that the offence was committed in the midnight on Oct. 5 at Ikosi- Ketu area of Lagos State.

Lucky said the complainant reported the incident at Ketu Police Station on Oct. 6.

“The complainant reported that he woke up and discovered that his generator battery valued N15,000 and his bicycle valued N50,000 had been stolen from his compound.

“He stated that the CCTV in his compound captured a man climbing the fence of his house to steal the said items and was properly identified.
Lucky told the court that the accused on Nov. 6, again went to the same compound at midnight to steal another bicycle valued N75,000.

He, however, said the convict was caught as he tried to pass it over to his accomplice.

The prosecutor said the offences committed contravened Sections 409, 404 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
