Taraba SIEC lifts ban on campaigns for LG election

Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission [TSIEC], on Friday, said it had lifted the ban on campaigns and other political activities in the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Dr Philip Duwe, Chairman of the commission, who made the announcement in a statement issued in Jalingo, said the order takes effect from Oct. 28.

He said that the election would hold after 90 days.

“I Dr Philip Duwe, the Chairman and Chief Electoral Officer of Taraba, by the powers conferred on me under section 6 of the TSIEC Law no. 6 of 2002 and other relevant provisions of the law and enactments there off;

“Do hereby pursuant to sec. 30 of the Electoral Act 2010 declare 90 days notice beginning from the 28 October 2016 for the conduct of local government elections in the state.

“By this notice, the ban on political activities on local government elections in the state is hereby lifted,” Duwe said.
