The Chair of the Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has warned public school Head Teachers against selling books given free of charge to schools by Government.

Mrs Josephine Abanida gave the warning in Lokoja on Friday.

She said that all instructional materials at the basic education level were provided free of charge by government, and must be given to pupils and JSS students at no cost.

Abanida said both the Federal and State Governments had invested a lot in providing instructional and other support materials for basic education development in the state.

She added that anyone caught charging fees for such materials would be arrested and prosecuted.

Abanida stressed that government was playing very serious roles in the lives of both teachers and students in public schools in the state.

“All our teachers are trained annually and we even pay them while in training,’’ she said.

The Kogi SUBEB chair said that there would be a three-week training for teachers in November in all the three senatorial districts of the state.

She explained that public schools in the state had quality teachers.

Abanida said that the board was doing everything possible to enrol more pupils and students into public primary and junior secondary schools in the state.

She said that education secretaries and village heads had been selected to enlighten parents on the need to enrol their children in schools.

The SUBEB chair urged parents to take advantage of the free and compulsory education in the state to enrol their children in the schools.
