A 56-year-old man, Adegoke Sanusi, who allegedly obtained N4 million from accommodation seeker under the guise of renting out an apartment was on Wednesday docked before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Sanusi, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a three-count charge of fraud, stealing and unlawful breaking of house.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Haruna Ibrahim, told the court that the accused committed the offences between January 2010 and January 2015 at No. 23, Sadatu St., Oregun, Ikeja.

He said that the accused unlawfully broke into the house of one Karimot Sanusi under pretext of being the owner of the premises.

Ibrahim said that the accused obtained the N4 million from an unsuspecting accommodation seeker under guise of renting out the apartment.

The prosecutor said that the apartment was a five bedroom duplex with a boys’ quarter, property of Karimot.
Ibrahim said the offences contravened Sections 285, 306 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. M. Ajayi, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must show evidence of payment of tax and one of them must be a blood relation of the accused.

Ajayi said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and adjourned the case till Nov. 14 for mention.
