Head teachers in some FCT schools have demanded functional clinics to enable both teachers and students to ascertain their health status before engaging in sporting activities.

Mr Ahmed Shangalo, the Head teacher, Pilot Science Primary School, Gwagwalada, FCT, said the school engaged in sports every Wednesday and that no one was left out.

According to him, pupils participate in different kinds of sports such as football, high jump and table tennis, among others.

He also urged other schools –private and public — to key into sports, stressing that it would help to improve the health of teachers and students.

Similarly, Mr Sani Idris, the Vice Principal, Government Day Secondary School, Gwagwalada, said that his school also engaged in sports every Thursday as part of its curricular activities.

According to him, the school has a nurse and an attendant who administers first aid treatment.

Also, Mr Pius Godwin, the Principal, Kings Kids International School, noted that sporting activities enhances the physique and mental alertness of both students and teachers.

Godwin, while underscoring the importance of sports in improving the health condition of every human being, stressed the need to provide the necessary facilities to sustain sporting activities at all levels of academic institutions.
