Alhaji Muhammad Ahmad, the Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Sokoto State, has canvassed for adequate logistics and manpower to curtail the issue of illegal mining in the state.

Ahmad said this during a courtesy visit by the Chinese Ambassador, Dang Ying, to the State Command on Monday in Sokoto.

“With logistics and manpower, you know we can cover a lot on the issue of illegal mining.

“All the foreigners that come in without valid travelling documents and permission to stay in the country are considered as illegal immigrants,” he said.

Ahmad also said that the command had made efforts to curtail the issue of human trafficking, adding this had, however, been hindered by the porous state of the Nigerian border.

In his remarks, the ambassador said that his visit was to strengthen the relationship between the Chinese government and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“Our aim is to ensure a cordial relationship between the Chinese government and the Nigerian Immigration Service to ease migration.

“Nigeria is a great country and we hope to do a lot more for each other,” the envoy said.
