The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is to convene an Olympic Summit to discuss the protection of clean athletes and more specifically, to review World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) anti-doping system.

The IOC Media Department said in a statement on Tuesday that the summit would hold on Oct. 8 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

It said that the discussions would focus on some principles for a more robust, more efficient and more independent worldwide anti-doping system.

“This will include a reinforcement of the request issued by the Olympic Summit on Oct. 17, 2015 to make the entire anti-doping system independent from sports organisations.

“The Olympic Summit will also discuss a first debrief on the success of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,’’ it said.

It also said that the Olympic Summit would involve leading representatives of the Olympic Movement.

It forms part of the ongoing dialogue and consultation on the main topics of interest and concern to the Olympic Movement.

Those that will be present at the summit are IOC President, IOC Vice-Presidents, IOC Executive Board Members representing International Federations and Athletes.

Presidents of International Federations like President of FIFA, President of the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) and the President of International Swimming Federation (FINA).

Others are the President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), President of the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) and President of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSF).

Also, President of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), President of Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF) and President of Association of summer Olympics International Federations (ASOIF) are expected.

The National Olympic Committees expected are President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, President of the Russian Olympic Committee and President of the United States Olympic Committee.

Invited participants related to the topic of the fight against doping are President of WADA, President of SportAccord and President of the IPC,’’ it said.
