The Board of Trustees (BoT) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the National Caretaker Committee of the party to hold the next national convention of the party in Abuja.

This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the BoT meeting in Abuja on Monday.

National Chairman of the board, Sen. Walid Jubrin, who read the communiqué, also advised the caretaker committee to constitute a new convention planning committee.

“To ensure a credible, transparent, free and fair convention, a new Convention Planning Committee should be constituted by the National Caretaker Committee and approved by National Executive Committee (NEC),” he said.

Walid added that the BoT would facilitate the raising of adequate funds for the party’s activities, including the convention.

The BoT which passed a vote of confidence on the caretaker committee, charged it to, as soon as possible, convene a meeting of the NEC of the party.

According to him, the NEC’s meeting should be convened to accordingly, approve proposals for moving the party forward.

Disputed National Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, had demanded the removal of Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers as chairman of convention planning committee as part of conditions for resolving the party’s crisis.

Sheriff had also demanded that the convention should be shifted from Port Harcourt to Abuja.

He had urged the BoT’s reconciliation committee headed by Prof. Jerry Gana, to continue with all its reconciliation efforts.
