A six-storey hotel building under development collapsed on Monday morning on 444 Crescent, Citec Villas, Gwarinpa, Abuja.

The incident happened at about 1a.m. Five labourers were trapped inside and three have been rescued by combined efforts of the Police, NEMA and FERMA.

According to Babafemi Ojudu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, who posted pictures on his Facebook wall, the iron rods used for the pillars gave in like wood and the concrete work is as brittle as ordinary sand.

Ojudu called on the Federal Capital Territory authorities to investigate those in charge of approving and supervising this construction to determine why they were so negligent.

Said Ojudu: “Thank God it was not completed and inhabited by lodgers before collapsing. It would have been tragic.”

Meanwhile efforts are still going on to rescue the two innocent laborers trapped under the rubble.

NEMA and others are still carrying out rescue efforts.
