Usmanu Danfodiyo Varsity denies death of students in auto crash

The authorities of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, on Wednesday, said that none of its students lost his or her life in any recent auto-crash.

This is contained in a statement signed by its Vice –Chancellor (V-C), Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, and made available to newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday.

The institution statement was sequel to a story which alleged that six students from the university died in an auto crash.

The V-C in the state said, “Actually, there was an accident involving our students, two days ago.

“However, there was no death recorded as a result of the road crash.

“As at today,Wednesday,one of our female students who sustained a deep-cut from an auto-crash is responding to treatment at our clinic.

“The accident, as depicted in the picture of the affected bus that had gone viral in the social media, has not claimed any life.”

Zuru appealed to the students and other members of the university community to desist from spreading “such dangerous rumours”.

He advised the public to always seek clarifications from relevant authorities before spreading unsubstantiated and damaging stories about the institution.
