Man docked for stealing, roasting live turkeys

A 23-year-old man, Chukwu Dalington, who allegedly stole two live turkeys in Lagos with others still at large and ate them, has been released on bail in the sum of N50, 000.

A Surulere Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, also granted the accused one surety.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The accused stole the two live turkeys property of the complainant, Solomon Agwuocha, who lives in the same neighborhood with the accused, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, the prosecutor, told the court.

He put the value of the turkeys at N35,000.

According to Okoliko, the offences were committed at No.17, Ojoajeje Close, Sari-Iganmu on June 8.

“Dalington and his ‘gang’ killed the two live turkeys and ate them without the consent of the owner.

“The accused ran away after committing the crime.”

The offences contravened Sections 285 (1), 289 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The offences carry jail terms ranging from two to three years, according to the Criminal Law.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni has adjourned the case to Sept.13.
