Police arraign driver for mischief

A 30-year-old driver, Muzammil Mohammed, on Thursday, appeared in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for alleged mischief.

Mohammed of Gaskiya Layout, Zaria, Kaduna State, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and mischief.

Prosecutor Urom Otu told the court that Aminu Majjdadi of Area 11, Efab Mall, Garki, Abuja, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on Aug. 6.

Otu said the complainant entrusted his truck to the defendant to remit N60,000 weekly which he defaulted.

He said the defendant further damaged the vehicle and parked it at Okene Road, Kogi State.

Otu said the cost of repairs of the damage was N90,000, adding that the offence contravened sections 312 and 327 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

The presiding officer, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N150, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Kagarko said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case till Oct. 19 for hearing.
