The Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu, on Wednesday said that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the repair of the scoreboard at Agege Stadium.

The approval follows the governor’s visit to the facility to watch the local derby between MFM FC and Ikorodu United on Match Day 24 of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

Tinubu, who made the disclosure in Lagos, said the governor ordered the repair because he knew the importance of sports to the development of the state’s economy.

“Ambode will do everything to support sports growth

“Our sports-loving governor has ordered the repair on the Agege Stadium scoreboard.

“He noticed it when he came to watch the derby between MFM FC and Ikorodu United and was touched by the situation, he said.

“We were at the stadium to watch the match and he noticed that the scoreboard wasn’t working, knowing its importance and the flair it brings to football; he asked what was wrong.

“We explained what the problem with the scoreboard is and he demanded for a report which was submitted to him and he has approved the repair.

“The scoreboard will be fixed soon and other facilities will also enjoy the same attention too,’’ Tinubu told NAN.

He added that other sports facilities across the state would also be renovated as approved by the state government.

“We are looking at renovating other structures to make them world class; those that needed to be resuscitated or repaired will be attended to.

“Agege Stadium is equipped with world class gymnastics hall and other facilities such as tartan track, synthetic pitch and good dressing rooms.

“We will continue to update our facilities to the required standards which we cannot do at a go but we will always improve on them.

“We are creating an enduring sports culture and tradition that will be for generations to come,’’ the commission’s boss said.
