A 20-year-old man, Muyideen Olarenwaju, who was caught with hard drug at a bus stop in Lagos by the NDLEA, is to cool his heels in prison till Sept. 8 pending judgment, a court has ruled.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had charged Olarenwaju before a Federal High Court, Lagos, for drug trafficking.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Following his guilty plea, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah, asked the court to remand the accused in custody, while he sought a date for a review of facts.

Consequently, the vacation judge, Justice Babs Kuewumi, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody and fixed Sept. 8 for review of facts and sentence.

Earlier, the prosecutor told the court that the accused was arrested on June 10 at Odo-Eran Market along Cele Bus Stop axis of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.

According to him, about 1.9kg of hemp (Cannabis Sativa) was recovered from the accused, believed to be a member of a drug syndicate.

“The accused was arrested at the bus stop and charged to court.”

The offence contravened Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The Act stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.
