President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday held a closed door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the State House, Abuja.

Obasanjo, who was accompanied to the Presidential Villa by one of his daughters wore a blue Agbada and was driven to the forecourt of the President’s office in a black Sports Utility Vehicle marked ABJ 425 PY.

Details of the meeting were unknown but Obasanjo told State House reporters shortly after leaving Buhari that emerging revelations on the padding of the 2016 budget in the National Assembly confirmed his earlier position that lawmakers are “armed robbers and rogues.”

The former president declared that the best way out of the current mess was to ensure that only men of integrity are elected into the National Assembly.

Obasanjo had at a 2012 event in Lagos attended by two former Nigerian leaders, Yakubu Gowon and Ernest Shonekan, described the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly as institutions filled with “rogues and armed robbers.”

The former president told journalists at the Presidential Villa that he was sure that the fresh revelations would make those who did not believe him when he made his first statement to do so now, stressing that there is no need to investigate the allegations and counter-allegations of the 2016 budget padding in the National Assembly.
