Banker docked over alleged N4.1m fraud

A former employee of FirstBank of Nigeria, Timothy Adewale, who allegedly defrauded the bank to the tune of N4.1 million was on Monday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Adewale, 32, a former cash processor with the bank,and a resident of No.10, Ejalonibu St., Oko-Oba in Agege area of Lagos State, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Nicholas Akpene, said that the accused committed the ‎offence between April 18 and 26, during working hours at FirstBank Plc, Ikeja Industrial Estate branch.

Akpene said the accused stole the sum of N1.4 million belonging to the bank.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mrs A. T. Omoyele, granted the accused N1million-bail with two sureties in like sum.

Omoyele said the sureties must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the court and their addresses verified by the prosecutor.

The case was adjourned till Sept. 7 for mention.
