Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has expressed shock over the death of former Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe and renowned author, Elechi Amadi.
In a statement signed by the SSA media to the governor, Adejuwon Soyinka, the governor noted that Maduekwe died at 71 while Amadi passed on at the ripe age of 82.
Amosun said Maduekwe was one politician who played politics without bitterness. “Chief Maduekwe was a patriot who served Nigeria in different capacities, at different times and to the best of his ability,” he added.
The governor said Nigeria also suffered a huge loss in the death of Elechi Amadi, the renowned novelist and literary icon.
He described Amadi as “a literary giant and patriot who contributed in no small measure to the development of Nigeria and indeed, Africa through his literary works”.
While praying that God grants the families of the two departed souls the fortitude to bear the loss, Governor Amosun added: “They will be sorely missed at this critical stage in the socio-political development of Nigeria.”
