Residents of Amolaso community in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to Governor Ibikunle Amosun to assist them in clearing the refuse dump which has taken over the road and cut off the community from the rest of the town.

The refuse dump located behind the fence of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta has become an eyesore, they stated.

A visit to the community by our correspondent revealed that the alternative route has become impassable as heaps of refuse had taken over the road, exposing those living around there to health hazards.

The head of the community, Apostle Adebesin appealed to the state government to come to their aid by assisting in evacuating the refuse to avoid outbreak of epidemic disease in the community.

He disclosed that some communal efforts had been taken by the people but insisted that government had to step in at this point.

President of Amolaso Youth Association, Sulaiman Omitola, also called for close monitoring of the area by the government to prevent people from dumping refuse there.

Another resident, Revd. E.O. Quadri, the Atunluse of Amolaso corroborated the youth leader and urged the government to speedily come to their aid.

Efforts to speak with the State Environment Commissioner, Bolaji Oyeleye, were unsuccessful as he refused to pick his calls.
