Two labourers, Amusa Yahaya and Lawal Adamu, who allegedly stole industrial machines, valued at N3.5 million, were on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, Yahaya, 28, lives in Ojota area of Lagos State, while Adamu, 26, who gave no fixed address, are facing a two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large, in June at No. 97 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused broke a part of the company’s fence and gained entry to steal the industrial machines.
“The accused were apprehended by the security guards, while the others escaped,” the prosecutor said.
“The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,” he added.
Section 285 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 provides for two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The accused, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 each, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to July 13, for mention.
