Teenager docked for snatching handbag under Lagos bridge

A teenage boy, Lateef Nurudeen, was on Tuesday arraigned in Lagos for allegedly snatching a woman’s handbag containing N30,000 and a phone.

Nurudeen, 18, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of theft at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel said the accused had on June 22 snatched a handbag from a woman (names withheld) under the bridge at Iyana-Ipaja, a Lagos suburb.

Samuel said the bag contained an android phone valued at N22,000 and N30,000 cash.

“The accused was apprehended by the police following an alarm raised by the complainant.’’

The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs. A.R. Onilogbo, granted the accused a N50, 000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till July 11 for mention.
