With the deadline for the submission of governorship candidate in Edo State looming, the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to reverberate in Edo State as the state chapter of the party Sunday suspended one of its governorship aspirants, Matthew Uduoriyekemwen, and recommended for discipline a member of the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Agbonnayima.

The party said the working committee met on Sunday and ratified the suspension of Uduoriyekemwen for one month while recommending Agbonnayima to the national body of the PDP for appropriate disciplinary action.

The party described the behaviour of Uduoriyekemwen as unacceptable, irresponsible and selfish, pointing out that the aspirant teamed up with claimant to the position of national chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ali-Modu Sheriff, by purchasing what was described as a kangaroo nomination form for the same governorship slot the aspirant lost just a few days ago.

At a media briefing held at the state secretariat of the party in Benin on Sunday, state publicity secretary, Chris Nehikhare, said Uduoriyekemwen’s behavior and utterances immediately after losing the PDP primaries on June 20 has become not only embarrassing to the party but also to the vast majority of Edo people, who are yearning for a change of government and party.

Nehikhare said the State Working Committee uncovered an alliance between some people within the PDP and the Governor Adams Oshiomhole led government of Edo State to destabilize Edo PDP ahead of the September 10 gubernatorial election.

He said, “The conduct of Matthew Iduoriyekemwen in associating with Alhaji Modu Sheriff with the intention to destabilize the party in the state amounts to anti-party activity. Consequently, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen is hereby suspended from the party for one month, pending further disciplinary action in accordance with chapter 10 of the Peoples Democratic Party Constitution of 2012 (as amended).

“For also associating with Alhaji Modu Sheriff with the intention to destabilize the party in the state, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayima is hereby recommended to be disciplined by the National Caretaker Committee in accordance with chapter 10 of the party’s constitution.

“All party members in the state are enjoined to refrain forthwith from associating or in anyway dealing with Alhaji Modu Sheriff, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and E.J. Agbonayima pending the conclusion of the disciplinary processes now being undertaken by the party.

“All those party members said to have been appointed into the kangaroo caretaker committee announced by Alhaji Modu Sheriff are advised to ignore the appointment and stay away from the committee. ‎
