Mrs Bolanle Amupitan, the new Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Kogi, says her major focus will be the fight against women and child abuse in the state.

Amupitan on Friday decried violence against women in the society and poor enrolment of students in schools in the state.

According to her, children in Kogi have the right to go to school but most parents do not take this serious, and instead, send their children to engage in street trading during school hours.

“My ministry is ready to put a stop to child labour in the state because they are the leaders of tomorrow and we need to help them grow well,” she said.

The commissioner promised to do her best in the ministry to take it to greater heights and solicited the support of the workers to actualize her goals.

She said the administration of Gov. Yahaya Bello was ready to support all viable projects and make sure that the wellbeing of citizens in the state are catered for.

The commissioner called on the directors in the ministry to be pro-active, innovative and come up with memos aimed at transforming the state.

She warned staff of the ministry to shun rumour mongering, but rather seek clarification when issues are not clear to them.

“Anybody is free to come to my office any time they need clarification on official issues bothering them,” Amupitan said.
