Lagos-based Ikorodu United FC players and officials were on Friday involved in an auto accident while travelling to Makurdi for their Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 23 game.

The club’s Media Officer, Babatunde Ayoola, who confirmed the accident, said they were going to honour the match with Lobi Stars on Sunday.

Ayoola disclosed on telephone that the accident occurred on Friday evening between Enugu State and Benue, adding that no death was recorded but that they sustained injuries.

He said that their bus had a head-on collision with another bus, adding that the occupants of that bus were not as lucky as the Ikorodu United players and officials.

Ayoola, however, said that the team’s 18-seater bus was badly damaged.

The club’s spokesman said that though the impact of the accident was severe, they were grateful to God that they did not lose any life.

“We thank God that we did not lose any of our players and none sustained severe injury; it was just minor injuries that the officials and the players had.

“The only challenge is the traumatic condition of the players and the officials in the bus,’’ he said.

He said the organisers of the competition would determine what next for the team.
