Police parade 40 robbery, kidnapping suspects

Solomon AraseThe Police Command in Kaduna State on Wednesday paraded 40 suspects for alleged robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling and car snatching.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adamu Ibrahim said 20 of the suspects including two Nigeriens and two women, belonged to gangs that specialized in robbery and car snatching.

He said that 12 other suspects belonged to four different kidnapping gangs located in Kachia, Chukun, Kagarko and Kajuru local government areas of the state.

According to him, eight of the suspects are suspected cattle rustlers, arrested in Kachia and Chukun local government areas.

He said that 403 cows and 23 sheep were recovered from them.

Ibrahim said six vehicles and two anti-car tracking devices were recovered from the car snatchers.

He disclosed that a commercial vehicle (Sharon) with registration number NKK 627X Anambra used by the car snatching gang was also impounded.

The commissioner added that 11 guns including four AK47 rifle and two pistols, with over 230 rounds of ammunitions were also recovered from the suspects.

He appealed to residents to be more vigilant and assist the police with vital information on the hideout of suspects.

Meanwhile, the Nigeriens said that they were drivers engaged to drive vehicles across the border between Niger Republic and Nigeria.

They said that they had been in the business for three years driving vehicles from Katsina State to Maradi, Niger Republic.

On their part, the two women suspected of robbery said they were commercial sex workers while the gang members were only their customers.
