A Delta State High Court sitting at Asaba Tuesday sentenced a man, Lucky Anyali, to death by hanging for murder.
The 26-years old builder was convicted on a count charge of murder, punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap C. 21 Volume 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.
According to the prosecution, on 18 February, 2014, at Ogwashi-Uku, within the Ogwash-Uku Judicial Division, Anyali murdered Emeka Ashibuogwu by stabbing him in the chest with a kitchen knife.
Ashibuogwu died at the Ogwashi Uku General Hospital where he was taken to.
The prosecution told the court that the convict had a scuffle with Ashibuogwu when the latter went to see his estranged wife who had a three-year old daughter for him.
It was alleged that the convict was having an affair with the estranged wife of Ashibuogwu.
The prosecution said the convict attacked Ashibuogwu on sighting him.
After committing the offence, the accused fled the scene of crime that night but was later arrested by youths of the area the following morning and handed over to the Police at Ogwashi-Uku.
The convict admitted stabbing Ashibuogwu in self defence in his statement.
