Gov.-Ibikunle-AmosunAbiodun Onafuye, Abeokuta: Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has ordered investigation into the cause of the collapsed four-storey market building in Abeokuta to prevent a reoccurrence.

One person died while 15 others sustained injuries during the mishap which occurred in Itoku area of Abeokuta.

Governor Amosun, who led a nine-hour rescue operation on the site confirmed on Saturday that nobody remained under the rubble of the collapsed shopping complex.

In a statement signed by the SSA on Media to the Governor, Adejuwon Soyinka, Governor Amosun disclosed that he ensured that the rubble were fully cleared to confirm that no one was left in the building.

“At a point, Governor Amosun actually entered the remaining part of the partially collapsed building to personally inspect and ensure that no one was left behind,” the statement read in part.

Construction engineers at the site when the building collapsed had earlier confirmed that a total of 16 workers were on duty at the time.

Eight of these workers escaped unhurt while eight injured workers were rushed to the hospital. Two have been discharged, five are still receiving treatment while one died.
