Abiodun Onafuye, AbeokutaThere seems no end to the crises rocking the People’s Democratic Party, in Ogun State as the three factions in the party on Tuesday held separate congresses and elected three chairmen for the party.
The three factions are being led by three political gladiators in the state.
They are Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly; Dimeji Bankole, former Speaker, House of Representatives and Ladi Adebutu, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Remo federal constituency.
The three chairmen elected at today’s congresses held at different venues in Abeokuta are Chief Wale Egunleti, Sikirulai Ogundele and Engr. Bayo Dayo.
Engr. Bayo Dayo, the former chairman of the party in the state who was suspended last week was re-elected into office by the Senator Buruji Kashamu-led faction of the party.
The congress took place at the party secretariat along IBB Boulevard, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Leaders of the party present at the congress include Senator Kashamu, Mr egun Seriki and, some PDP lawmakers led by the State Chief Whip, Wale Alausa.
The Oladipupo Adebutu faction held its own congress at the main hall of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta and elected the former Chairman of Ifo Local Government and a governorship aspirant in the 2015 election, Sikirulai Ogundele, as chairman.
Party chieftains at the congress include the former deputy governor of the state, Alhaja Salmot Badru, a former federal lawmaker, Jelili Kayode Amusan, Chief (Mrs) Iyabo Apampa, Elder Yomi Akinwonmi, Evang. Olusoji Eweje, Prince Lekan Tejuoso, among others.
The third faction led by Dimeji Bankole held its congress at the Ake palace, Abeokuta and elected Chief Wale Egunleti as chairman.
Despite the heavy rain, members of the faction came out enmasse to participate in the congress.
Party chieftains at the congress were former state lawmaker, Olu Fatoki, Giwa Mufutau Oseni, former Chairman, Ijebu Ode local government, some G-15 lawmakers like Job Akintan, Abiodun Akovoyon, Olu Fatoki and Michael Fasinu.
