11525 people get N21.7m zakat in Jigawa

The Kazaure Emirate Council in Jigawa has distributed Zakat (alms) worth over N21.7 million to 11, 525 less privileged people in the area.

The Emirate’s spokesman, Malam Gambo Garba, made the disclosure to NAN in Dutse on Monday. Garba said that the Zakat consisted of over N4.13 million cash and N17.6 million worth of grains.

He said that the Emir, Alhaj Najib Hussaini, made the figure known at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Zakkat distribution exercise in Diwidi village.

The spokesperson explained that the food items were distributed to deserving families in nine district councils under the emirate.

Garba said that the emir reaffirmed the commitment of the emirate council toward the propagation of Islam through wealth redistribution to reduce poverty in the emirate.

He quoted the monarch as urging wealthy persons to always support the vulnerable and less privileged in the society to reduce poverty in the area.

The spokesperson added that the Chairman of the Zakkat Collection and Distribution Committee of the council, Alhaji Bala Muhammad, commended individuals who voluntarily gave out alms in support of the needy.

He said that the emir also presented gift to district, village and ward heads that excelled in the collection of Zakkat in their domains.

He said that the district head of Gwiwa, Alhaji Bello Adamu, was given a trophy, while that of Kazaure and Diwidi, Alhaji Ibrahim Hadi were given cash rewards.
