Abiodun Onafuye, Abeokuta. To ensure safe and speedy release of the abducted former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali and some other senior officers of the command have relocated to Ilaro, the town where she was kidnapped on Wednesday night. >
> The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain was kidnapped while returning from her farmland along Sawonjo/Igankoto road in Yewa area of Ogun State.
> The security officials were joined by local hunters and members of the Vigilante Service of Ogun State, VSO, Yewa zone.
The officials, PMNEWS gathered, were combing every nooks and crannies of Yewa axis in search of the politician, popularly called Mama, in the town.
>Our correspondent gathered from a police source that over 120 men and officers from all commands in the state were deployed for the rescue mission.
>PMNEWS also learnt that the Toyota SUV with registration number Lagos LSD 115 AM in which the woman was being driven at the time of her abduction has been recovered with some items.
> Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun has assured the people of the state that Anisulowo, who was the first elected female senator in the state, would be rescued unhurt.
> Amosun warned criminals to stay away from the state. “Ogun State is not a place for criminals. We will find those who did this and bring them to justice. Ogun State is not and can never be a safe haven for criminals,” Amosun declared.
Reacting to the abduction, the lawmaker representing Yewa South/Ipokia federal constituency, Adekunle Akinlade described the abduction of Senator Anisulowo, as unfortunate and sad.
“This singular act is a reflection of the debasement of our values as a people. Why would anyone kidnap a 65-year old pensioner?
“Mama has spent the last couple of years managing her farm and living a very modest lifestyle.
“As her representative at the National Assembly, I will continue to explore every available source to ensure her safe release.
“I want to thank our governor for his swift response and action; the security agencies for their continued efforts; the people of Yewaland for their prayers. Thank you and God bless,” he stated.
In his reaction to the kidnapping of Anisulowo, the governorship candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria, in the last election, Prince Rotimi Paseda, described the abduction as a frightening dimension to the insecurity in the country. >
>”As kidnappers are invading the South, Fulani Herdsmen continue the festival of bloodshed in the Eastern part of the country. These are clearly intolerable and the security forces must rise to the occasion by taking concrete steps to combat the mindless lawlessness going on across the country.
> “The first responsibility of every responsible government is to secure the lives and property of citizens. On behalf of the citizens of Ogun State, we demand the immediate release of Chief (Mrs.) Anisulowo and call on the security agencies to arrest her abductors quickly,” Paseda stated.
> Our correspondent observed that special prayers were offered in most central mosques in Yewa yesterday during the jummat prayer, seeking Allah’s intervention in the search for Anisulowo.
Spokesman for the state police command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, has appealed to the people of the state to remain calm as everything necessary was being done to rescue the politician.
