Windstorm in the early hours of Friday has wrecked havoc at the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa and in some parts of Lagos, destroying a house in Ijegun.

The heavy windstorm accompanied by heavy rain fall around 1:15 am affected some parts of the roof top of the Ministry of Health, Block 4 Alausa.

The wind blew off the roof top of the left wing of the 6th floor of the building, while other parts of the building were not affected.

If it had been working hours, casualty may have occurred. When our correspondent visited the office, government staff were thanking God that the incident did not occur during working hours.

Large chunk of the roof top of the six-storey building housing the Ministry of Information and Strategy and the Ministry of Health was blown off by the frenzy wind and carried off to the Staff Canteen.

The blown off roof-top was deposited on the popular side of the canteen where many civil servants wine and dine.

In a related development, the heavy wind also led to partial collapse of a house, involving the wooden structure erected on the upper part of the building at 70 Ore Ofe Street, Ile Ibadan Bus Stop, Ikotun, Lagos.

The building fell and affected other building surrounding it.

Also, the topmost floor of a two-storey building at 27 Fakorede Street, Somolu which is used as a hall, partially collapsed following the heavy rain fall.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Michael Akindele said there was no loss of lives in all the incidents.

He advised landlords and property owners to ensure that roofs of their buildings are in good condition.

He also advised operators of telecom mast to ensure stability of their facilities.
