Despite the apparent threat by the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Abiola Ajimobi to enforce no work, no pay action if the state workers go on strike over unpaid salaries, the workers vowed to begin strike at the end of the ultimatum they gave the government.
The organized labour comprising Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), insisted that the seven-day ultimatum they gave the government to pay their six months salary arrears stands.
Disclosing this Wednesday, the state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Waheed Olojede, said that except something tangible is done by the government, workers’ indefinite strike action is imminent.
According to him, the state representatives at the negotiation panel which comprises the former Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Ismael Alli, and Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade, and the Head of Service do not have the capacity to continue with the negotiation, and called on the governor to resolve the crisis.
“The seven-day ultimatum still stands. The government representatives have shown that they don’t have the capacity to negotiate on behalf of the government. They have not been able to create a way forward. We are now calling on Governor Abiola Ajimobi to come by himself and talk to the workers,” he said.
Already, the seven-day ultimatum which was given on Tuesday 29 March, 2016 elapsed Tuesday, 5 April, 2016.
