After many months of living in darkness, parts of Oshodi and Isolo, in Lagos, Nigeria are to get 16 electricity transformers from the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, according to Mutiu Shadimu, the House of Representatives member representing the area.

Shadimu, the Vice Chairman, Privatisation and Commercialisation Committee of the House, stated this in Lagos on Wednesday when he revealed his effort to ensure that power is restored in the federal constituency.

He said he had liaised with the management of IKEDC, the power distribution company in the constituency and they have reached a conclusion on the issue.

He said: “electricity is an integral commodity for the economic development of the nation. And Oshodi, being a commercial nerve of Lagos should be given due attention.

“I know that some areas are in total darkness while the electricity providers share or rotate power to some others.

“We cannot move forward if we do not give the people access to electricity to live a normal live and do their business.

“Many people have left the jobs they were trained on because of the lack of power, it is this development that push me to make this goal an top priority on my heart.”

The lawmaker on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, promised that he would not relax until the transformers are distributed and the Oshodi area lighted.

He said he had also personally facilitated the provision of transformers to Eniola Adesanya, Odutolu and Amusa streets in the area adding that the 16 transformers would boost economic activities in the area.
