A Niger Delta pressure group under the auspices of Warri South West Monitoring Group (WSWMG) has called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to probe the Warri South West council boss, Hon. George Ekpemupolo, brother of Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo.

The group says they are not impressed with how he has managed the council for during his first tenure.

Chairman of the Group, Mr. Ebiwei Loye stated this in a press statement he made available to journalists in the oil-rich city of Warri.

The activist claimed that the Warri South West Council Boss never gave account of his stewardship throughout his first tenure, adding that, one had expected the Chairman to give account of himself now that he has been re-elected and about clocking two years in office.

“We want the Chairman of Warri South West Local Government Area, Hon George Ekpemukpolo to give the people a good account of himself in office. The Council should not be run as a personal business; no meaningful development in the entire Local Government Area, he should know that he is holding the position in trust for the people, the office is not a personal thing”.

“Annual General Meetings (AGM) are held by people to show accountability and transparency and we expect the same from the Warri South West Local Government Area Chairman by giving periodical account to the people”, the group said.

While imploring the council boss to give proper account to those who elected him, the group said;”The time has come for the EFCC to investigate the activities of our Chairman in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.”

“The Chairman was investigated by the EFCC in Port Harcourt in his first term in office; the EFCC should make the report of that investigation public as we are interested in the report, it should not be swept under the carpet.”

“It is our rights to know how our Local Government Area is being run. The Chairman should explain how he is managing our funds. The EFCC should not joke with this call for the investigation of the Chairman because as far as we are concerned, he is not transparent and this is where the EFCC must step in now to put him under proper probe to account for every kobo of the Council that he has spent,” the group posited.

But efforts to get the Warri South West Council Boss, Hon Ekpemukpolo for his reaction proved abortive as he failed to pick calls put across to him and also did not respond to a text message sent to him on the matter.
