North-west youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Tuesday described the emergence of former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as Chairman of opposition PDP as huge mistake.

A youth leader and the North-west coordinator of PDP youth wing, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu, said Ali Modu Sheriff’s appointment was illegal and should not be allowed to stand.

According to him, the leadership of the party was still trying to remain in the past when other political parties were moving with current reality.

Ibrahim, who stated this while addressing newsmen in Kaduna, added that the PDP had once again missed the point by its latest appointment of the controversial Borno born politician without stakeholders’ approval.

He noted: “Appointment of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was illegal and should not be allowed to stand. As far as we are concerned as youths in the PDP, we found the appointment of the senator as an affront and insult on the sensibility of all members.

“His appointment has caused more havoc for the party as some leaders of the party and a former president have condemned the appointment.”

He called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to come together and salvage the PDP from total collapse and humiliation.

He said it had become necessary for all of PDP members across the country to put the house in order to be able to wrest power from the current All Progressives Congress (APC) government at all levels in 2019.”
