The Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN), Lagos State Branch, on Saturday called for government’s financial support for artisans and local manufacturers of computer and phone accessories.

Mr Mac Eze, the Vice President of the association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the state government’s intervention would help to grow the industry and generate more revenue for the state.

“School leavers, who have the talent to produce phone accessories such as casing, pouch and batteries, need financial support in form of soft loans to develop and mass produce them in commercial quantities.

“Most people patronise products from Europe and America believing that they are superior to Made-in-Nigeria products.

“During former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Nigerian youths were encouraged to further develop their potential and talents to produce such items.

“Some people will go and produce inferior things and put labels of some countries all in a bid to sell them as quality products.

“If local manufacturers particularly in this sub-sector are supported financially and with good policies in place, they will be able to produce in commercial quantities which will also be patronised by some African countries,’’ Eze said.

According to him, China and other developed countries initiate policies and funds to support their local manufacturers before showcasing them to the world.

He urged youths to shun violence and vices and take advantage of the evolving skills and technology in the information communication technology sector
