The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it has received election materials for distribution to Registration Area Centres (RACs), in Nyelleng and Pyabor polling units for Saturday’s by-election in Plateau.

Mr I. A. Adetunji, the Electoral Officer (EO), Pankshin INEC Office, disclosed this in an interview with NAN in Pankshin on Friday.

“We are in receipt of all the electoral materials from INEC headquarters in Abuja, through our Jos office and we are about to commence distribution to our RACs.

“The bye-election is just in two polling units. As you can all see, the two presiding officers and their assistants are here to collect their electoral materials for their various polling units,” Adetunji said.

He declared that INEC was very ready to conduct the bye-election, which he noted had become expedient upon the commission not to fail the electorate in Pankshin North and South constituencies of the state.

According to him, the two polling units have just 11 ad hoc staff, including the presiding officers, who would conduct the by-election.

He called on the electorate and politicians to abide by the rules of the Electoral Act so as to ensure a successful and credible poll.

The EO, who gave assurance that all the Card Readers to be used had been charged, said “we do not envisage any problem during the exercise.”
