The Ekiti State House of Assembly has called on warring parties in the current Obaship tussle in Ikere-Ekiti, a community in the state, to give peace a chance.
NAN reports that the Chairman, House Committees on Public Petitions, Mrs Titilayo Owolabi-Akerele, made the plea on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti,while receiving petitions from one of the parties.
The duo of Mrs Owolabi-Akerele and her counterpart of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Mr Badejo Fowose, promised that the assembly would look critically at both the remote and immediate causes of the crisis.
“I want to appeal to the people of Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti in particular, that we cannot avoid jeopardising the existing peace being experienced in the state at the moment under Governor Ayo Fayose government.
“I, therefore, urge our people in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area, to allow peace to reign, pending the determination of the current crisis of headship in the community,” Owolabi said.
In his remarks, Fowose appealed to the factions to sheathe their swords and use dialogue to settle the crisis.
“It is better to jaw-jaw, than to war-war; our traditional rulers must impress it on their subordinates to give peace a chance.”
The committee chairmen however, promised to invite other parties in the matter to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis in the area.
