To ensure a free, fair and credible primary election where it’s flagbearer for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state would emerged, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has directed that the list of delegates elected at the 2014 Congress of the party, remains intact and sacrosanct.

The state chapter of the party in a statement issued through its Publicity Secretary, Godwin Erhahon, said the 2014 delegates list would be used for the party’s congress as already assured by the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun.

The party explained that the assurance became necessary to douse tension over rumours, boasts or threats from various quarters that attempts were being made by some persons to alter the list of delegates.

“All elected delegates who are still members of the party will be the voters at the primaries. Those who are no more in APC either by reason of death or defection cannot be replaced till after the primaries.

“All governorship aspirants and their promoters are advised to humble themselves to existing party leadership including the delegates rather than sponsoring suspension of party officials or replacement of delegates which can only backfire on them in the end,” the stat‎ement said.

It warned that the state leadership of the party would not tolerate any attempt to discredit the national leadership of the party which is the maker and custodian of the list of delegates.

The party therefore urged supporters of all aspirants to learn to respect and lobby leaders and delegates, adding “do not intimidate anyone as every delegate has the right to nominate a candidate he likes, not the one he fears.”

The party further assu‎red the people of the state that it will present a formidable and credible candidate for the governorship election to continue with the good work that Governor Adams Oshiomhole has started.
